OK, we admit it. This is our proudest achievement.
As the original registrants and developers of the cars.com domain name, we introduced many advances in web based car buying used by the major sites today. Some of these innovations in ecommerce include the first automotive related web site on the internet, a dealer locator system, and classified advertising system.
This development project was completed using a combination of technologies including Macromedia's Dreamweaver and Fireworks application for layout and graphical elements. Database functionality was backed by a 4th Dimension database. In addition, VSE's BeFound search engine software was used for web site submissions, page optimization and search engine rankings. The site was originally hosted on a Macintosh Performa 6400 using an ISDN 128K connection.
This domain name and site were purchased from hyperSystems in January 1998 by the Tribune Co. of Chicago, Illinois and is currently operated by Classified Ventures LLC.
